Kathy Madden, Vice President of Project for Public Spaces, joined PPS shortly after its inception in 1975 and has had extensive experience in all aspects of the firm's work, particularly in relation to the improvement of parks, plazas and open spaces. Madden is currently the director of the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Urban Parks Institute. The institute is designed to help leaders from the public, private and nonprofit sectors share strategies for the successful development of urban parks. She also has overseen user studies and worked in conjunction with park planning staffs to develop design and management recommendations in major urban parks across the country. She specializes in projects that develop and utilize community-based planning processes to upgrade and improve facilities to make them centers of neighborhoods, or catalysts for community development. She has organized and conducted over 200 workshops and presentations throughout the US and abroad.
